Liverpool makes a new signing just days after the transfer window closed!
Liverpool have just signed Djylian N’Guessan on a pre-contract deal from Saint-Etienne, a few days after the deadline. The Reds wrapped up the summer transfer window by bringing in six new players. Four of them – Bradley Barcola, Jeremy Jacquet, Victor Munoz, and Ronald Araujo – have already joined Andoni Iraola’s first-team squad.
The other two signings, centre-back Ifeanyi Ndukwe from Austria Vienna and goalkeeper Lucca Brughmans from Genk (for £30 million), are seen as players for the future at Anfield. Ndukwe will spend this season on loan at Levante in LaLiga, while Brughmans, who became the most expensive teenage goalkeeper with his move, has returned to his Belgian club for the season.
Now, Liverpool have added a third promising player: French forward Djylian N’Guessan. According to the Daily Mail, the Reds will pay Saint-Etienne £4.3 million for the 18-year-old, who will spend the season on loan at Stade Brest in Ligue 1. N’Guessan will officially join the Liverpool squad in January but the club will check how he is doing before possibly sending him out on loan again.
Liverpool spotted N’Guessan at the U17 Euros in Albania, where he made the team of the tournament. He’s another great find by Matt Newberry, Liverpool’s head of global talent, who has signed several young stars in recent years.
At just 18, N’Guessan has already faced the challenges of top-level football, playing eight Ligue 1 games last season as Saint-Etienne was relegated to Ligue 2. He’s also a France under-20 international and scored his first senior goal in a French Cup game in November 2025.
N’Guessan is seen as a talented young forward with huge potential, and people who know him well rate him highly. He’s been compared to players like Hugo Ekitike and Jonathan David—skilled finishers who can also drop deeper to help the team.
His former coach, Lionel Rouxel, told The Guardian in October 2025: “He’s a player with two key qualities for the top level: he plays deeper and moves well between the lines. Djylian is also becoming a goal scorer.”
N’Guessan is also the son of former pro footballer Dany N’Guessan, who played for clubs like Leicester City and Millwall before retiring in 2017. One of the things that makes Djylian even more exciting for Iraola is how versatile he is—he can play both on the wings and in the center.
