Liverpool fans have made up their minds about Bradley Barcola after his 31-minute debut.
Liverpool fans have already shared their thoughts on new signing Bradley Barcola after his first game in the 2-0 win against Ipswich Town.
Barcola came on as a substitute in the 64th minute, replacing Victor Munoz, making his debut for Liverpool since his £123 million move from Paris Saint-Germain. His fee was just a bit less than the £125 million Liverpool spent on Alexander Isak from Newcastle last summer.
Isak, who is rated at £125 million, scored twice within nine minutes at Portman Road for Ipswich’s manager Andoni Iraola’s team.
Because of that, Barcola came on with the main job of helping Liverpool keep or extend their lead, rather than trying to catch up.
In one of his first moments on the pitch, Barcola took the ball and went past two Ipswich players, which made Liverpool supporters away from home cheer loudly. He showed some promising passing and teamwork with the other players.
Like at PSG, Barcola stayed wide on the touchline and then tried to run inside or beat his defender by going wide.
Shortly after, he showed off his amazing speed by running freely down the middle of the pitch and passing the ball to Cody Gakpo, who, unfortunately, missed his shot and sent it over the bar.
With Ipswich pushing to get back into the game, Barcola also helped his defense by tracking back to protect their lead.
He quickly made a great impression on Liverpool fans.
“Barcola looks great,” wrote one fan on X (Twitter).
“I’ve seen enough. Barcola is going to be our best player ever,” said another.
“Barcola is going to be so good for us, man,” added a third.
A fourth fan wrote, “The trio of Wirtz, Szoboszlai, and Barcola is going to cause lots of problems.”
Fans at Portman Road even started singing a new chant for Barcola as soon as he came on, set to the tune of the TV show ‘Heartbeat’.
In his first interview as a Liverpool player, Barcola told the club’s official website, “I just want to play, that’s all I’m waiting for. It will be amazing.
“When I heard Liverpool was interested in me, I remembered the stadium’s amazing atmosphere, and I felt that again. It’s a real joy to play for a club like this.
“I spoke with [Iraola] several times, and he told me I could really help the team and that he trusts me. That made me want to join even more because when a coach believes in you, you can only do well on the field. It’s great to play for such a good coach.
“I want to achieve big things here. First of all, winning the Premier League—that’s one of my biggest dreams. I also hope to stay with the team for a long time—that’s why I signed a long contract—and I’m excited to do it.”
