Millions of Fantasy Premier League (FPL) managers are falling into a common trap that could cost them big in Gameweek Four.
We’re now three weeks into the 2026/27 Premier League season, and with about nine million managers playing FPL, there’s been plenty of excitement so far. Some have had a fantastic start, using their chips wisely, but many might undo their good work by making transfers too early.
More than five million transfers have already been made before the Gameweek Four deadline on Saturday at 1:30 pm. Usually, making moves too early is risky because your new players could get injured before their matches.
This week, that risk is even higher. Nearly every Premier League club has a midweek game before their league matches. European football is back, with Arsenal, Liverpool, Man City, Aston Villa, and Man United all playing in the Champions League. Plus, some teams are in the Carabao Cup third round at the same time.
These extra games increase the chance of injuries, meaning players might miss their weekend matches. Liverpool and Chelsea players are popular picks this week, but both teams face tough midweek games against Atletico Madrid and Leeds United before their Premier League games.
For example, Liverpool’s winger Cody Gakpo is the most transferred-in player for Gameweek Four, with over 524,000 managers bringing him in. He’s had a great start, scoring 28 points from goals and assists in the first three games. But Gakpo missed Liverpool’s recent training session, showing the danger of moving too soon.
Thankfully, it seems to be a precaution, but there’s no guarantee he’ll play Fulham on Saturday. Things aren’t looking great for Liverpool striker Alexander Isak either. Over 371,000 managers have already transferred him in, but with key players like Gakpo, Federico Chiesa, and Hugo Ekitike unavailable for the Champions League game, Isak will likely face a tough, physical match with little support.
Considering Isak’s injury history, it could be a tense weekend for managers who brought him in early. So, if you’re thinking about making early transfers, it might be worth waiting to avoid any surprises.
