Millions of FPL managers are about to make a big mistake with three transfers before GW4.
Three transfers might cause trouble for millions of Fantasy Premier League (FPL) managers as Gameweek 4 approaches.
The first three weeks of the 2026/27 Premier League season are done, and around nine million FPL managers have already learned a lot about their teams. Many have even used their first chips by now.
Thousands of players used the Bench Boost chip in Gameweek 1 or 2, but millions rushed to bring in certain players too early and got punished when those stars got injured.
For example, on Tuesday, managers were caught out when Andoni Iraola revealed that Cody Gakpo missed training before Liverpool’s big Champions League match against Atletico Madrid. Gakpo was a very popular pick for Gameweek 4, with over half a million managers choosing him after his 28-point haul in earlier games. Though he’s expected to be back for the match against Fulham on Saturday, his situation shows the risk of making early transfers — and it’s not the only tricky decision this weekend.
Gameweek 4 is also a popular time to use the Wildcard, with many managers changing their squads to include players from teams who have easier fixtures coming up. Chelsea is one of those teams, hosting Hull City, and a lot of managers have brought in their attackers like Morgan Rogers, Cole Palmer, and Joao Pedro.
Xabi Alonso’s attacking trio has had a fantastic start to the season, reflected by their high FPL ownership: over a million managers have brought them in, including 448,912 for Rogers, 353,052 for Palmer, and 206,820 for Pedro.
Together, these three have been involved in 10 goals in just three matches, and many managers are trusting they’ll keep up the form against Hull.
But returns aren’t guaranteed. Hull City has been a surprise this season, taking 7 points from 9 and being the only team yet to concede a goal. Sergej Jakirovic’s 5-2-3 defense has been tough to break, and despite facing 73 crosses, they haven’t let the ball in.
This won’t be easy for Chelsea’s attackers, even though they have one of the league’s best offenses. Hull is known for being very organized and hard to beat, so Alonso’s team will need patience and creativity.
Alonso’s style is different from previous coaches like Enzo Maresca and Liam Rosenior. Instead of focusing on possession, Chelsea plays quick counters against opponents who press high. Interestingly, Chelsea has the second-lowest average possession this season, with Hull having even less.
Hull won’t leave lots of space for Chelsea to run into, so breaking down their defense will be tough.
Last season, Chelsea struggled against defensive teams, losing or drawing against newly promoted clubs at home. So, even though many managers are confident in Chelsea’s attackers, it’s worth remembering that Hull City is a tough team to beat.
