Martin Odegaard didn’t hold back during his chat with CBS Sports, making a funny dig at Jamie Carragher and Micah Richards.
On Wednesday night, Arsenal won their Champions League opener against Napoli thanks to a late goal from captain Odegaard at the Stadio Diego Armando Maradona. The CBS Sports team—Kate Scott, Jamie Carragher, Thierry Henry, and Micah Richards—covered the game as usual, and Odegaard’s post-match interview left Carragher and Richards a bit speechless.
In recent years, Carragher, who was called a Liverpool legend by Scott during the season opener, hasn’t been shy about criticizing Odegaard. A famous moment was when Carragher went after him for taking a photo on the pitch after Arsenal beat Liverpool in the 2024/25 season.
So, when Richards asked Odegaard who his favorite host on the show was—a common question on CBS Sports—the midfielder took the chance to poke fun at Carragher. Odegaard said, “There’s only one answer here.” Carragher joked, “Thank you,” but Odegaard quickly replied, “There’s only one real legend in that studio,” clearly meaning Henry. The studio burst out laughing. Then Odegaard revealed he was just joking and surprised everyone by saying, “Nah, I’m joking. Jamie, you’re my favourite.”

After the match, Mbappe appeared on CBS Sports for the first time to chat about the game and playing under new coach Jose Mourinho. Like Odegaard, Richards asked Mbappe who his favorite pundit on the show was, and many expected him to pick Thierry Henry, his fellow Frenchman. But after hearing a fun poem from Richards, Mbappe chose him instead, saying, “I would have to say you.”
Richards was over the moon, running around the studio and even hugging Mbappe through the screen in a fun moment that quickly went viral.
