Anthony Gordon gives Barcelona a surprising boost worth millions after only five games with the team
Barcelona have already seen great value from signing Anthony Gordon, just five games into his time at the Nou Camp. When it was announced in May that Barcelona had agreed to pay £69.3 million to Newcastle United for Gordon, many people were surprised.
But the English player quickly proved the doubters wrong with an outstanding start at his new club. This success shows in the big rise in his transfer value since his move.
Before Gordon’s signing, many thought Barcelona would bring in Marcus Rashford as their new left winger. Rashford had a decent loan spell at the Nou Camp last season, and Barcelona could have signed him permanently for €30 million (£35m). Instead, they decided to spend nearly double to sign Gordon, Rashford’s England teammate.
Even though some fans were unsure at first, Gordon has already made a big impact, providing five assists in his first four La Liga games. He also made his Champions League debut as a second-half substitute in a 5-1 win over Feyenoord.
Gordon’s strong start has made him a fan favorite and pushed his value up by around £8 million in just a few months. According to CIES Football Observatory, the 25-year-old is now worth about €90 million (£77.3m).
If Gordon keeps playing like this, his value will likely keep rising throughout the 2026/27 season and beyond. Since Barcelona gave him a five-year contract, they have plenty of time to get the most out of him in the years ahead.
Barcelona manager Flick has been impressed with Gordon’s start but knows he’s not perfect yet. In the important Champions League win against Feyenoord, Gordon had several chances to score but didn’t find the net.
“I think as a striker, he wants to score goals,” Flick said after the match. “He missed some chances, but he made the key passes to set up goals, which is also very important.”
With Barcelona currently leading La Liga, two points ahead of second-place Alaves and three points above rivals Real Madrid in third, it’s unlikely Flick will be too hard on Gordon for missing those chances for now.
