Roberto De Zerbi says he could be ‘the best coach in Italy’ after Tottenham’s 0-0 draw with Everton.
Roberto De Zerbi said in his recent press conference that if his team keeps clean sheets in two games in a row, he should be called “the best coach in Italy.”
Tottenham is still struggling to win in the Premier League, and their 0-0 draw with Everton marked the fourth game in a row without scoring. This means, for the first time in the club’s history, Tottenham hasn’t scored in their first four league matches of the season.
After losing their opener to Brentford, they also lost to Newcastle and then had goalless draws against Nottingham Forest and Everton.
Even with this tough start, De Zerbi found some good points in the match. In his post-game talk, he seemed happy with how well the team defended. “In Italy, I should be the best coach, right? Two games, two clean sheets,” he joked. “What will the newspapers write? Two clean sheets. What do you want to write — a clean sheet or no goals? Tell me!”
De Zerbi also talked about a heated moment on the pitch with Mathys Tel. Tel came on as a substitute but didn’t do much in attack. The coach explained that he was giving Tel advice on how to play as a striker, saying that a striker should face the goal and use their body well. De Zerbi said Tel started his career as a striker but now plays as a winger, so he had to adjust.
He finished by saying he really likes Tel both as a player and a person and that there’s “no problem” between them.
