Liverpool fans approached Jeremy Jacquet as he left Anfield after the club’s 0-0 draw with Fulham, and videos of the moment have been shared online. The 21-year-old defender, who joined Liverpool from Rennes this summer, got out of his car on Saturday afternoon to talk with the fans.
Journalist Keefe Irwin recorded the scene, saying Jacquet was ‘abused’ by some fans for not stopping to greet children. After a short chat, Jacquet got back into his car. Many people quickly pointed out that it wouldn’t have been safe for him to stop in traffic to take photos or sign autographs.
A lot of fans have come to Jacquet’s defense, with one commenting, “There is a time and a place, and it’s not there.” Another added, “Stopping there could have gotten him in trouble with the police. It’s a dangerous spot.”
On the field, Jacquet was one of Liverpool’s best players on Saturday. He made a crucial clearance off the line to help goalkeeper Alisson after a loose pass to Ryan Gravenberch.
