Martin Brundle had to awkwardly stop his interview with Jose Mourinho during the Spanish GP grid walk.
Martin Brundle had a bit of an awkward moment when he had to suddenly cut short his interview with Jose Mourinho during the grid walk at the Spanish Grand Prix on Sunday afternoon.
Brundle, the Sky Sports pundit, was wrapping up his live pre-race segment at the MADRING Sur when he spotted the Real Madrid manager and decided to have a quick chat. Mourinho was in a good mood and talked about how excited he is to attend the new Portuguese Grand Prix next year. But just as he was speaking, Brundle had to stop him mid-sentence, making the ending a bit awkward.
The chat started with Brundle congratulating Mourinho on Real Madrid’s recent 4-1 win over Rayo Vallecano before shifting the talk back to Formula 1 and the race ahead. Mourinho was asked what he thought of the new Madrid circuit next to their training ground.
“This is right next to where I work, at my training ground,” Mourinho said. “I pass by here every day and have seen how the track has evolved. So it means a lot to us. I even drove on it, and it’s very interesting…”
Before he could finish, Brundle had to pull his microphone away because Sky Sports was about to broadcast the Spanish national anthem that had just started playing.
Mourinho was there with some Real Madrid players for the first-ever F1 event at the MADRING Sur circuit. Alongside him were Eder Militao, Denzel Dumfries, and summer signing Yan Diomande. Thibaut Courtois and Jude Bellingham also talked to Brundle earlier during the grid walk.
Bellingham got a lot of praise for his enthusiasm, sharing how much he loves the sport but also admitting he still has a lot to learn.
“I’ve been with Mercedes and met George and Kimi. They’ve been telling us about it. I have to pretend I understand, but honestly, the level of strategy and everything they do is just on another level,” said the England midfielder.
Brundle then mentioned how tricky it was for him to handle all the 29 buttons on a modern F1 steering wheel.
“It’s incredible,” Bellingham replied. “I’m used to a PlayStation controller, and these guys are managing about 40 buttons. Credit to them for the hard work—they really deserve everything they get.
“What I respect most is how calm and composed they all are under pressure.”
It was a fascinating glimpse into the world of F1, mixed with a bit of football star excitement!
