FPL managers spot a lower-ranked team with an amazing run of matches, and everyone needs to get a player from them right away!
Fantasy Premier League (FPL) managers are encouraged to choose at least one player from a team that could help them score well in the later weeks of the season.
So far, the top FPL scorers have been familiar faces, with Joao Pedro and Erling Haaland leading the attackers, Josko Gvardiol topping defenders, and David Raya as the best goalkeeper.
But midfield is where it gets more interesting. Brighton’s Pascal Gross is currently leading with 33 points. Even though Bournemouth hasn’t won any of their four games, two of their midfielders, Marcus Tavernier and Alex Scott, are in the top five. With their upcoming fixtures, Bournemouth might be a smart team to focus on for Gameweek 5.
Bournemouth has lost three matches and drawn one under new coach Marco Rose, but the scores don’t tell the full story. They held a lead against Manchester City until conceding two late goals, and against Everton, they led for 50 minutes before finishing 1-1. They were also up 2-0 at Newcastle before the game ended 2-2, and they had 20 shots in a 2-2 draw with Brentford.
If Bournemouth can improve their defense, especially towards the end of games, better results should follow. Their upcoming schedule looks promising for picking up good points.
FPL Twitter account @FPL_Marcello has pointed out Bournemouth’s run of tougher fixtures—called ‘red’ fixtures—rated from 2 to 4 on a difficulty scale, with Arsenal at 5 as an exception. Between Gameweek 7 and 30, the Cherries face only two tough games against Manchester United and Aston Villa. Their other matches are mostly against easier teams. However, they do have two tough matches coming up soon, away at Liverpool and at home against Chelsea.
This ranking is mostly based on last season’s standings but also considers other factors. For example, Tottenham is ranked tougher at 3 after spending big this summer, even though they finished 17th last season, while Newcastle is rated 2 despite finishing 12th. Brighton is also rated 2, though some might disagree after their recent 5-0 win over Coventry.
As mentioned, midfielders Marcus Tavernier and Alex Scott, both priced around £6.1 million, are good picks. They’ve scored 29 and 28 points so far. But keep in mind other players might think the same, so if many managers buy them, their prices could go up.
Striker Evanilson, a £6 million player owned by only 3.3% of managers, could be a great alternative. While he hasn’t scored yet this season, he has provided three assists. Last season, he scored six goals and assisted seven.
Midfielder Justin Kluivert, also £6 million, hasn’t hit his stride yet but has played every game. He scored his first goal recently and is owned by just 1% of managers. After missing half of last season with a knee injury, he’s looking to return to top form.
Brazilian midfielder Rayan, who had 13 starts, five goals, and two assists last season, hasn’t scored or assisted yet this year. He’s Bournemouth’s most expensive player at £6.4 million and owned by 1.8% of managers.
Defender James Hill, priced at £5.5 million, is another option worth considering. At 24 years old, he’s a regular starter and averaged 10.9 defensive contributions per match last season. Players get 2 points if they hit 10 or more defensive contributions in a game, so Hill could bring solid value.
