The true story of Curtis Jones after the exciting Inter vs Udinese match as John Stones faces a big setback

Italian fans and the media have shared their thoughts on new summer signings Curtis Jones and John Stones after Cristian Chivu’s Inter Milan played an exciting match against Udinese at San Siro on Monday (September 14).

Udinese surprised everyone by scoring early, with James Abankwah netting in just nine minutes, and Jürgen Ekkelenkamp adding a second goal shortly after. But Inter quickly bounced back—Carlos Augusto scored in the 26th minute, followed by Nicolò Barella’s equalizer nine minutes later. In the second half, Marcus Thuram, Pio Esposito, and Ange-Yoan Bonny helped Inter build a 5-2 lead. Udinese managed to make it 5-3 in stoppage time through Idrissa Gueye.

Inter kept their perfect start to the Serie A season with four wins from four games so far.

Out of the three English players Inter brought in this summer, only John Stones started the game. The former Manchester City defender played until the 62nd minute but had to come off after feeling some discomfort in his flexor muscle, according to Chivu in a post-match interview with DAZN Italia. Meanwhile, former Spurs right-back Djed Spence is still out injured, and Curtis Jones impressed during a 30-minute appearance off the bench.

Sky Italia gave Jones a 6 out of 10 for his performance, and fans and journalists alike praised him on social media. The Italian site Calciomercato.it also rated Jones 6/10, while Stones got a 5.5. L’Interista was less kind to Stones, giving him a 5 and pointing out that he struggled marking opponents early on and lost many duels. They saw injury concerns as a key factor in his performance.

Jones earned a 6.5 rating from L’Interista, who said he brought energy and skill that was missing since Mkhitaryan left.

Teammate Piotr Zieliński also had positive things to say. The Polish midfielder said, “We showed strength and quality. Even though we were two goals down, we kept confidence. We saw a great, passionate Inter coming back, but we need to improve defensively. Jones? He’s a fantastic player. You can see his quality every time he touches the ball. He started the play that led to Pio’s goal. He brings pace, energy, and intensity—it’s clear in training. Everyone new here is showing their quality.”

Fans took to social media to share their views on Jones too. One wrote, “I really like Curtis Jones. He’s a breath of fresh air in midfield.” Another said, “He’s quietly making a big impact at Inter Milan. When he came on, the midfield instantly improved, letting Zieliński control the game with his passes.” A third fan added, “He brought calm and direction to the midfield, linking well with the attackers. Curtis Jones is a fantastic player and will help the team a lot.”

Next up, Inter face a tough away game against league leaders AS Roma on Saturday (September 19).
