Anthony Gordon won’t ask for anything at Barcelona that his teammates wouldn’t agree to right away.
Anthony Gordon seems to have settled into life in Catalunya really well, already providing five assists in his first six games for Barcelona. The England player also has strong support from the club, who shared a positive message for him on social media as he looks for his first goal with Barca.
His teammates seem to be getting along great with him both on the training ground and during matches. But Gordon thinks they might not be interested in one hobby he’s really passionate about.
The 25-year-old didn’t play in the Racing Santander match and stayed on the bench, though he had started the previous four La Liga games for Barcelona. He also came on as a substitute in the Champions League when they won 5-1 against Feyenoord.
Even though it might not always show in the stats, the whole Barcelona team looks happy under coach Hansi Flick, who keeps rotating players to keep everyone feeling good.
Happy teams usually hang out off the field too. Gordon has thought about starting a club based on one of his hobbies, but he doesn’t think the younger players would be into it, as he told El País.
When asked if he’d like to start a book club, he wasn’t so sure his teammates would join him for some quiet reading time. Gordon said, “I’d like to, but I haven’t tried. The lads are too young; they wouldn’t do it. I know footballers who read are rare. But I feel like I’m an old soul, you know? Like I belong to the past.
“I belong to another time. My personality fits better with the ’90s. Now everyone is caught up with social media, material things, and romance is almost gone. I’m not like that; I prefer the past.
“Since social media came around in 2010, I think things have gone downhill. People care about things that don’t really matter. The only thing that truly matters is being at home with your loved ones.”
Barcelona has many talented young stars, like Lamine Yamal, Pau Cubarsi, and Gavi, who all won the 2026 World Cup with Spain. The current star is Yamal, 19, who is aiming to win the Ballon d’Or this year. He’s confident his work last season deserves the award.
Gordon has spoken about Yamal, impressed by his mindset. He knew Yamal was skilled but was surprised by his attitude. The 25-year-old said, “It’s his mentality. I expected him to be good and talented, but I didn’t expect that attitude: usually a young, gifted player relaxes a bit in defense, but he presses as hard as Rafa and I do. And he never misses a workout.”
