Jamie Carragher says sorry to Sky Sports viewers for his comments about a Liverpool player during the Bournemouth win.
Jamie Carragher has warmly apologized to Sky Sports viewers for his earlier comments about Liverpool defender Jeremy Jacquet during their win over Bournemouth.
Alexander Isak’s goal in the second half helped Andoni Iraola’s side secure a 1-0 victory and stay unbeaten after five Premier League games. While Isak got praise for scoring his third goal of the season, Liverpool’s defense, especially Jacquet’s performance alongside Virgil van Dijk, really stood out again.
Jacquet was one of four new signings Liverpool made this summer, joining from Rennes for £60 million in July after agreeing the transfer back in February. The 21-year-old was seen as a future star at Anfield, and he’s already shown great defensive skills early on in the Premier League.
He has started every league game so far, including the recent match at the Vitality Stadium, where he put in a huge performance. Jacquet was strong on the ball too, completing 88% of his passes and showing his defensive strength with six recoveries, two interceptions, and two clearances.
Standing tall next to the experienced Van Dijk, Jacquet has made a fantastic start to the season and earned high praise from former Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher on Sky Sports.
“Am I getting carried away? I apologize to viewers at home… But I’ve been really impressed,” Carragher said. “He’s young; he’ll make mistakes, that’s normal for young center-backs. But he’s played very well. He looks like a proper center-back and a good player.”
Carragher said sorry for letting his excitement show, but his praise was spot on, and fans will hope Jacquet keeps showing this level of maturity on the pitch.
Jacquet has adapted quickly to the Premier League, using his strong defensive skills, good ball control, and physical presence really well at Anfield. Plus, he has a great chance to learn from one of the best defenders in the world, Van Dijk. Iraola has said Jacquet has “all the tools” needed to succeed at Liverpool.
Back in July, the manager said: “I knew Jeremy well even before he signed for Liverpool. He’s still young but has everything we need for his position. He came into the end of last season with a shoulder injury, but he’s fully healed now and has been training with the U21s. He’s ready to go from the start.”
Iraola’s words have proven true as Jacquet continues to impress in Liverpool’s first five Premier League matches.
