What’s the story with Gareth Bale’s look-alike who also played for Tottenham?
Over the past 24 hours, more than 2.6 million people have checked out Kenny McEvoy after social media again pointed out his amazing resemblance to Gareth Bale. It’s something that keeps coming up!
X user @THEZONEEEEEE shared four photos of McEvoy from his Tottenham days, saying, “It’s still crazy to me that this guy wasn’t Gareth Bale.”
Although McEvoy spent five years at Spurs, he never played in a senior game. The closest he got were two times sitting on the bench during the 2013-14 Europa League.
After leaving Tottenham, he played for York City, Waterford, and South Normanton Athletic. Yet, people are still talking about how much he looks like Bale, even a decade later.
On January 3rd, 2016, McEvoy thanked Tottenham for finally letting him go. At that point, he was playing for York City on loan — his fourth loan in two years. Before that, he had spells at Peterborough, Colchester, and Stevenage.
He said on Twitter, “I decided months ago I wanted to leave and play first-team football because I didn’t see it happening at Tottenham, no matter how hard I tried. Thanks to my lawyer for helping me leave, and to Tottenham for agreeing. Wherever I go next, I’ll be happy to prove people wrong.”
He also thanked the Tottenham fans who supported him and said he looked forward to what the future holds.
McEvoy joined York City permanently but left after the 2015-16 season. Then he signed with South Normanton Athletic, where he did well. In early 2017, clubs like Sligo Rovers and Waterford showed interest, and he chose Waterford.
He stayed only six months there, leaving by mutual agreement to take a full-time job in England so he could support his young family. He thanked the club for understanding and said the new opportunity would help his family settle after four years of moving around.
Now, according to LinkedIn, McEvoy works as a managing consultant at Ford & Stanley, a UK-based talent services and recruitment company.
