Anthony Joshua shares a private email from the doping agency asking where Tyson Fury is.
Anthony Joshua recently shared a private email from VADA on his Snapchat story, where the doping agency’s President asked about Tyson Fury’s whereabouts. This came shortly after Fury posted a video on Instagram on Monday, saying, “Coming for you AJ, if you ever grow a pair and fight.”
Joshua posted the VADA email on Tuesday morning. The President of VADA was asking if Fury would enroll with them and requested his whereabouts form. Just to be clear, VADA didn’t say Fury failed any doping test—they just wanted to know if he would be enrolled. The email explained how they usually enroll both fighters at the same time and need the whereabouts form to do so.
Joshua added to the email screenshot: “I’m not accusing [Tyson Fury] of anything,” as they prepare for their big fight on December 11, though the exact date, time, and venue haven’t been confirmed yet.
The whereabouts form helps VADA find an athlete for surprise drug testing. It usually asks for home addresses, training places, travel plans, and times when the athlete is available. But from Joshua sharing the email, it seems Fury hasn’t given that info yet.
Fury hasn’t replied publicly to Joshua’s post, and there’s no sign he’s failed or refused any drug tests.
Their fight is expected to happen at Cardiff’s Principality Stadium. Eddie Hearn, Joshua’s promoter, has questioned Fury’s testing schedule, saying Fury’s contract doesn’t require the same drug testing obligations Joshua has. That means Fury might not have to enroll with VADA as early as Joshua.
Hearn also said he thinks Fury is “fearful” of Joshua, adding, “He’s afraid to lose. Joshua’s physical presence is a big challenge. Fury will try to find any advantage because that’s how he is,” said Hearn.
After some back-and-forth between the two camps and uncertainty about the Netflix event’s location, Fury finally spoke up on Monday. He posted about a tough training session and took a jab at Joshua:
“Training like a Trojan warrior. It’s alright, Joshua, I know you’re scared. But I won’t hurt you, I’ll make it quick… You’ll know who the Spartan is if he ever gets the guts because I hear he’s running scared. You big, useless guy…”
Right now, the two fighters are set to meet in Cardiff after weeks of confusion over the venue. Joshua’s camp wants the fight in the UK, while Netflix briefly suggested New York. The match is planned for Friday, December 11, but there’s still a lot going on behind the scenes.
