Anthony Joshua and Tyson Fury are about to make a lot of money with their all-British heavyweight fight. Reports say they’ll both earn big paychecks.
On Thursday, September 24, it was finally announced that these two English fighters will face off at Cardiff’s Principality Stadium on December 11. The fight will likely start around 2 a.m. the next day to fit American TV schedules.
Saudi boxing boss Turki Alalshikh shared the news on his X account, saying, “For 15 years, this fight hasn’t happened. In April, I promised any news would come from me. Now I can confirm Fury vs. Joshua is happening in the UK. The time for talking is over.”
Before this, venues like Las Vegas’ Allegiant Stadium and London’s Wembley Stadium were suggested, but Joshua’s promoter Eddie Hearn said AJ’s contract requires the fight to take place in the UK.
For years, talks have gone back and forth. Both fighters and their teams have even called each other out on social media.
It’s said that Joshua and Fury will split a combined prize of £200 million, with each getting half, not counting bonuses or sponsorship deals.
Fury’s biggest payday was reportedly £80 million in May 2024 when he fought Oleksandr Usyk. Joshua’s highest-earning fight was in 2025, when he made £70 million facing Jake Paul.
A press conference is planned for London on September 30.
The two last saw each other at Tottenham Stadium after Fury’s comeback win over Russian Arslanbek Makhmudov, where Fury earned about £18 million. Fury grabbed a microphone and shouted, “I challenge you, Anthony Joshua, to fight me next. Do you accept?”
Joshua stayed calm by the ring, refusing to directly respond. He said, “I punched you up when we were kids, and I’ll do it again. You won’t tell me what to do; I’ve been chasing you for 10 years. I’m the boss, you work for me. I’m the landlord, you work for me.”
After the fight was announced, Joshua posted two photos of himself in a white blazer with a Union Jack flag behind him. His caption read, “The quietest ones often pull the strings. Those who seem least involved may hold the most control. Let them shout first; the wisest wait for the final move. Yours truly, Anthony Joshua.”
Joshua’s record stands at 30 wins and 4 losses, with defeats against Daniel Dubois, Usyk twice, and Andy Ruiz Jr. Fury has 36 wins, 2 losses, and 1 draw, with both losses also against Usyk.
