Enzo Maresca’s surprising post shocks fans after Man City’s 115 charges verdict
Enzo Maresca’s recent Instagram posts have left fans both confused and surprised, especially with the news about Manchester City being found guilty in a big financial case.
Back in February 2023, the Premier League charged City with 115 financial rule breaches over nine years. The case was looked at by an independent group, but it took over 18 months with no decision. Even Premier League boss Richard Masters had to speak out about the delay.
Then on Friday, David Ornstein from The Athletic shared that City were found guilty on 114 of the 115 charges. City has always said they did nothing wrong, and their statement after the verdict was very strong. They said the case is still “ongoing” and are expected to appeal.
City hasn’t posted anything on their official website, and Maresca’s social media posts caught attention too. Right after a perfect run of seven wins in a row during the international break, he shared an Instagram post with the caption, “Time to breathe. Time to analyse. Time to learn.” The first photo showed him barefoot on grass. Comments were off, but many fans talked about it online, some joking and others guessing what it might mean.
Back in July, Maresca said he wasn’t worried about the charges when he became City’s manager. Pep Guardiola, the coach before him, always supported the club too.
City plans to appeal, but any kind of punishment is possible. According to Premier League rules, punishments could include fines, points taken away, or even being kicked out of the league. Some even think past results might be changed, with Rio Ferdinand joking he could get a seventh Premier League medal.
It’s also been said that punishments might happen even while the appeal is going on. During those nine years, City won three Premier League titles, with Manchester United finishing second twice, and Liverpool coming second in 2014.
