Man City Premier League title bets affected after 115 charges decision
Manchester City being found guilty on 114 out of 115 charges has led to Paddy Power giving back the biggest ever bet refunds.
City was accused by the Premier League in February 2023 of 115 financial rule breaches. But it took until September 2026 for a decision, after a long three-month hearing with an independent panel.
On Friday, David Ornstein from The Athletic shared that City was found guilty of almost all the charges. Although no penalties have been decided yet and the club plans to appeal, many possible punishments are being discussed.
In response, Irish bookmaker Paddy Power announced a huge bet refund. They said on social media that they are refunding all bets placed on teams who finished second to City during eight seasons.
The charges cover the years from 2009/10 to 2017/18. During this time, City won the league for the first time in 44 years in 2011/12 and added more titles in 2013/14 and 2017/18, with the last one under Pep Guardiola’s record-breaking team.
Paddy Power’s refund covers all eight of City’s Premier League titles. According to them, Manchester United and Liverpool each have three titles, and Arsenal claimed the championship in 2022/23 and 2023/24 before finally winning last season.
City has stayed firm, saying they have strong evidence proving their innocence. They haven’t posted on their official channels, choosing instead to share a highlight video of Rayan Cherki. But they released a statement through the media.
A club spokesperson said: “The Premier League process is still ongoing, with important parts yet to be completed and kept confidential. Our position remains the same as stated in February 2023. We have trusted the process would be fair and impartial.”
According to Premier League rules, fines, points deductions, or even being kicked out of the league could be possible punishments. Some think older penalties could apply too. Rio Ferdinand mentioned he might get an extra medal from 2012, and Jose Mourinho said he deserves a fourth medal if City is confirmed guilty.
