Trent Alexander-Arnold given surprising Premier League chance after Jose Mourinho says no to Real Madrid
Trent Alexander-Arnold might be heading for a big move in the Premier League that could fix the tough times he’s had at Real Madrid.
Since he left Liverpool in a surprising switch to the European giants in summer 2025, things haven’t gone as planned. After a tough first season that saw him miss out on England’s World Cup squad, he’s now fallen out of favor with Real Madrid’s coach Jose Mourinho. This has sparked interest from Arsenal, who are thinking about a surprising move for him.
So far, Alexander-Arnold has played 40 games for Real Madrid, giving eight assists, but he’s now second choice behind their new signing Denzel Dumfries. This has led to talk that he might leave just a year after joining.
According to Fussball News, Arsenal are watching closely. They want to bring him back to form after his great years at Liverpool. Trent came through Liverpool’s academy and spent nine seasons there from 2016/17 to 2024/25, featuring in 354 games and getting 23 goals and 86 assists.
Arsenal see him as a fresh and exciting option for right-back, offering something different from their current players, Jurrien Timber and Ben White. If they want to sign him, they’ll have to wait until the winter transfer window opens on January 1, 2027.
But for now, Real Madrid don’t seem keen on letting him go; they still see him as an important part of the team. There haven’t been any serious talks between the clubs or Alexander-Arnold’s agents yet, but some early discussions might happen once his situation at Real Madrid is clearer.
If Real Madrid do decide to sell, Arsenal would likely need to pay between €70 and €80 million.
There’s also talk about a possible return to Liverpool, who have been short on right-back options since he left. However, journalist Ian Doyle shared with the Liverpool Echo that this is unlikely. He said coming back would be a big step down for Trent, and the club has moved on since he left. Plus, the way he left might make a return difficult, even though he was one of Liverpool’s best ever right-backs.
Liverpool have also brought in Ronald Araujo on loan from Barcelona, which has eased the need for a new right-back for now.
So, while Trent’s future is still up in the air, a move back to the Premier League, possibly to Arsenal, could be on the cards in the near future!
