Khaldoon Al Mubarak believes he can show Man City is ‘innocent’ as an open letter lists 114 charges against the club.
Manchester City chairman Khaldoon Al Mubarak feels confident the club can still prove they are innocent after the Premier League found them guilty of 114 charges on Friday (September 25).
Back in February 2023, the Premier League accused City of breaking financial fair play rules 115 times over nine years, from 2009 to 2018. During this time, City won the Premier League title three times, beating big teams like Manchester United, Liverpool, and Arsenal.
Although no penalties have been decided yet, City plans to appeal the decision. It’s also possible that other top English clubs might take legal action.
On Friday afternoon, Manchester City issued a strong statement about the situation, saying: “The Premier League process is still ongoing and many important parts are not finished. We’ve always trusted that the Board would be fair and unbiased.”
Chairman Khaldoon Al Mubarak also wrote a personal letter on the club’s website, sharing his belief that City is innocent despite the charges.
“I’ve been with this Club for 18 years and have shared special moments with you all,” Al Mubarak wrote. “This Club means a lot to me, and I know it means a lot to you too. That’s why I want to speak to you now.”
“After the news on Friday, many of you must have had questions from friends and family—I did too. I told my family that this process isn’t over yet, and we are as determined as ever to prove our innocence.”
He added that although he wishes he could share more details, legal rules mean he can’t right now. Even this letter was carefully checked to follow the rules.
“I ask you to please read our official statements from Friday and February 2023 carefully—every word is important,” he said.
“Some people are quick to jump to conclusions, but nothing has really changed. We’ve faced tough times before and come out stronger. There are still people trying to stop our progress, but we won’t let that happen.”
“We have some exciting games ahead after the international break, including a trip to Anfield and a Champions League match against Paris St Germain at home—great chances to celebrate being part of the Manchester City family.”
