Big update on the 115 Man City charges comes as the CEO stands firm after talking with the clubs.
Manchester City’s chief executive, Ferran Soriano, recently told other club leaders that the fight with the Premier League over financial rule breaches isn’t over yet.
On Friday, September 25, reports came out saying City was found guilty of 114 out of 115 charges made by the Premier League. The punishment hasn’t been decided yet, but it could include losing points, being kicked out of the league, or paying a big fine.
City first faced these charges in February 2023, related to alleged financial issues from 2009 to 2018—a time when the club won three Premier League titles. An independent commission looked at the case from September to December 2024.
Even though many news outlets said City was guilty, CEO Soriano—who’s been with the club since 2012—is standing firm. Speaking at a European Football Clubs meeting in Denmark, he told a crowd of football leaders that he disagrees with the commission’s decision and plans to keep fighting the Premier League.
“It’s taken eight years to get here, and it will take even longer to finish,” Soriano said.
This came right after City chairman Khaldoon Al Mubarak shared a message on September 26, reminding fans of the club’s strength and their belief in proving their innocence. He wrote:
“I’ve been with this Club for 18 years, and it means a lot to me. So many of you have shown how much Manchester City means to you, and that’s why I’m speaking out today.
After Friday’s news, I know many of you spent time answering questions from friends and family. I did too. What I told my family is that the Premier League process still has a long way to go, and we’re just as confident now as when it started.
There’s a lot I wish I could share to explain why we feel so sure, but the legal process is strict, and I must respect it. Even this letter had to be legally checked.
Please take a careful look at the statements we shared, both now and back in February 2023. Every word is important and still true.
Some people have quickly made up their minds, and there’s a lot of noise around this, but nothing has changed. We’ve faced tough times before and come out stronger. Some want to stop our progress, but we won’t let that happen.

Back in February 2023, after the charges were first announced, City said: “We’re surprised by these allegations, especially since we’ve shared so much detailed information with the Premier League. We welcome the independent review, confident that the facts will clear us up once and for all.”
