Tyson Fury quickly denies Anthony Joshua’s contract claim after new phone call details come out

Tyson Fury fired back strongly at Anthony Joshua after Joshua said he’d only sign a contract if his “name goes first.”

On Wednesday (September 30), two of Britain’s best boxers finally faced off at a press conference before their big fight at Cardiff’s Principality Stadium on December 11.

Most of the time, both fighters showed respect to each other, and Fury even said he’d grab a drink with Joshua after their showdown. But Fury got upset when Joshua made a certain claim during the event.

Fury and Joshua have been building up to this fight for a long time. There were worries the fight might not happen, especially before Fury started drug testing with VADA on Monday.

Over the past few months, there have been a lot of issues around their big-money contracts. First, there was talk about the fight happening outside the UK, but Joshua and his promoter Eddie Hearn insisted it must be at home.

A part of Joshua’s contract also said UFC president Dana White couldn’t be involved in promoting the fight or come to the press conference on Wednesday.

During their conversation, Joshua said Fury wouldn’t sign the contract unless his name was listed first.

“I got a call the other night saying, ‘Do you mind if Fury’s name goes first, because he won’t sign otherwise,’” Joshua said.

Fury quickly denied that. “No way! You’ve been acting all worried behind the scenes about who gets top billing,” he said. “You’ve tried everything to avoid this fight, but now I’ve got you cornered!”

There were still doubts if Joshua would back out, but it looks like the fight is definitely on.

Fury showed two sides at the press conference. Sometimes he praised Joshua, calling him the “poster boy for British boxing.”

But he also hyped up the fight, saying he’s going to “blast him out of the ring.”

“I’m coming out to hit hard,” Fury said. “It’s going to be like a wild gunfight, and the best man will win. I’m not running away—I’m going to throw down! When I catch him, it’s game over.”

In July, Fury won by TKO in the seventh round against Mariusz Wach, while Joshua survived a tough start and knocked out Kristian Prenga in round two.

Now, after years of waiting, the fight is just 10 weeks away — and it could settle who’s the best British boxer of this generation.
