Tyson Fury shares that Donald Trump helped lift his US ban after Dana White stepped in.
Tyson Fury recently shared why he feels grateful to Dana White after being banned from entering the United States for four years. After his 2018 comeback, Fury fought five times in a row in the US, including an amazing trilogy with Deontay Wilder. After that, he had big fights at home and in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, but couldn’t travel to the US for a long time.
In June 2022, reports said Fury was banned from flying to the US because of supposed links to Daniel Kinahan, who’s both a boxing advisor and accused of being involved in organized crime. At one point, the US government even offered $5 million for info about Kinahan and his group. Fury’s younger brother Tommy was also stopped from traveling for a while.
However, in June this year, Fury made his first visit to the US in over five years, making a special entrance at the UFC Freedom 250 event at the White House. At the time, he thanked Saudi boxing chief Turki Alalshikh for making it happen. But a few months later, Fury told Mike Coppinger from Ring Magazine that it was actually Dana White and the UFC who helped solve his visa problems by bringing the matter to Donald Trump. Fury explained, “Dana put it on Donald Trump’s table, and Trump just said, ‘Bang, Tyson’s a great guy, come on in!’ That’s how things get done.”
Now training in South Florida for his big fight with Anthony Joshua, Fury said he welcomed Dana White’s involvement and even changed his contract to give White a role. White wasn’t at the press conference on Wednesday, but fans booed his name when it came up. The Fury vs. Joshua fight is set for December 11 at Cardiff’s Principality Stadium after Joshua got his wish to have the big British fight on home turf.
Madison Square Garden in New York was a top choice for Fury vs. Joshua, but Fury wants to fight in New York for the first time later on, facing Oleksandr Usyk in a trilogy after losing two close fights to the undefeated Ukrainian.
After Joshua and Fury face off, Fury said he plans to retire from boxing and become a promoter. “First, I want to punch this guy into pieces as a warm-up,” Fury told IFL TV. “Then, I want the trilogy with Usyk early next year. The perfect end to my long career will be Anthony Joshua in Cardiff, then Oleksandr Usyk at Madison Square Garden. After that, I’ll join Frank Warren and aim to be one of the greatest promoters ever.”
