Andy Carroll shares that a famous friend who hurt him was Kevin Adams
Andy Carroll has named Fame Academy dance teacher Kevin Adams as the person who sexually assaulted him. In his autobiography, “Owning It,” Carroll recently decided to share his story and reveal that he was a victim of sexual assault by a male celebrity five years ago.
At first, Carroll chose not to name who it was, but now he has confirmed it was Adams, who is best known for being a dance coach on the BBC show Fame Academy. Adams was later sentenced to three years in jail for the assault.
Carroll said he included the story in his book at the last minute, hoping it would help others going through similar experiences. He wrote, “It’s scary to talk about, but it’s made me who I am today, just as much as the good things. If sharing this helps just one person, then it’s worth it.” He also explained how the trauma affected every part of his life and made it hard to focus, even on football.
After finding out that Adams’ name was now public through court documents, Carroll confirmed it to The Sun and said, “Hopefully now I can finally start to put this chapter behind me.” He asked people not to keep sharing pictures of him with Adams because he doesn’t want constant reminders. “I want to move forward. This had a big impact on me and my loved ones,” he said.
Adams, who is now 59, was found guilty of sexually assaulting Carroll in September 2023. He was sentenced to 20 months in prison, had to register as a sex offender for 10 years, and must stay away from the village where Carroll lived.
During sentencing, Judge Mary Loram criticized Adams for trying to make himself look like the victim. Adams has since made his social media accounts private and hasn’t commented publicly.
