AC Milan’s new head coach Ruben Amorim is looking to sign a player from Manchester United for the first time since leaving the club, according to reports.

Amorim took over Milan this summer after a break following his departure from United. So far, Milan has been doing well, unbeaten in five Serie A games with three wins and two draws, sitting fifth during the international break.

The club has already spent a lot under Amorim. They signed winger Diego Moreira from Strasbourg for €50 million and broke their record by paying €74 million for striker Goncalo Ramos. Now, Amorim is eyeing a player from Old Trafford again.

Italian news site Calciomercato says Milan is ready to try and sign forward Joshua Zirkzee in the January transfer window. Milan wanted Zirkzee before he joined United in 2024 but couldn’t get him. This time, they might have a better chance.

Zirkzee has barely played for United this season—only 70 minutes as a substitute in four matches. It’s said that United might let him leave in January. He played in Serie A before with Cagliari and was linked to Juventus and Roma last summer.

Milan is thinking about making another move for the 25-year-old. Right now, Amorim only has Goncalo Ramos and Francesco Camarda as strikers. Milan sold Lorenzo Colombo and Rafael Leao in the summer and didn’t extend Niclas Fullkrug’s loan from West Ham.

After leaving United, Amorim stayed silent about his time there, not wanting any distractions as the team tried to qualify for the Champions League. But since joining Milan, he’s talked more openly about his former club and even mentioned some critics.

Last month, when asked about AC Milan legends’ opinions on his start as coach, Amorim said he faced the same kind of pressures at United. “I was at a club [United] with many legends,” he said. “They have big opinions and talk a lot. They lived in a very different time.”
