Liverpool is aiming to sign a €100m star winger who’s been smashing all the records, making the club president step in to comment.

Liverpool are said to be interested in signing an exciting young winger who could be their next Luis Diaz. Over the past few transfer windows, Liverpool hasn’t held back on spending big to bring in fresh attacking talent like Alexander Isak, Hugo Ekitike, and their latest signing Bradley Barcola.

It looks like the Reds are already planning to add more talented forwards soon, and reports suggest that Brazilian winger William Gomes is at the top of their target list. Gomes currently plays for Porto and caught Liverpool’s eye near the end of the summer transfer window, with rumors that the club might have tried to sign him late in the window.

The 20-year-old has also been linked with clubs like Newcastle, Arsenal, Manchester United, and Chelsea over the past year, but no concrete moves have happened yet. According to Portuguese newspaper A Bola, things might change soon because even after signing Barcola for £123 million from Paris Saint-Germain, Liverpool still highly value Gomes as a potential signing.

However, the chances of Liverpool signing Gomes got a bit tougher recently since Porto just signed him up for two more years, keeping him at the club until June 2031. His release clause also increased from €80 million (£69.6 million) to €100 million (£87 million). But don’t worry — Liverpool or any other team probably won’t have to pay that much since Gomes is currently valued at about €30 million (£26.1 million).

This higher release clause is mainly Porto’s way of protecting their asset because they expect his value to rise a lot as more clubs notice his great performances. This season, Gomes has started strong with two goals and two assists in nine games. Last season, he helped Porto win the Portuguese league by scoring eight goals and providing one assist.

After announcing the new contract, Porto’s president Andre Villas-Boas spoke about Gomes’ progress and the interest he’s attracting from other teams. He said they wanted to reward Gomes because of his hard work and dedication. He praised Gomes for breaking records with his effort in both attack and defense, which fits Porto’s values perfectly.

Villas-Boas also mentioned that Gomes wanted to stay at Porto, and they agreed quickly on the new contract to keep him happy. It seems like a message to Liverpool or any other club interested in Gomes: Porto are keen to keep him and believe this is just the start of a great story.
