Julian Nagelsmann is now one of the top candidates to replace Michael Carrick as Manchester United’s head coach, if the club decides to make a change, according to reports.
Carrick’s job is under more pressure after United lost 4-1 to Como in the Champions League on Tuesday. Club captain Bruno Fernandes even spoke openly about problems with the team’s tactics after the match.

After the defeat, former Newcastle boss Eddie Howe was the favorite to take over, but now Nagelsmann has surged ahead as a strong option.
TalkSPORT says Nagelsmann and his agents have already been approached about the Manchester United job.
Nagelsmann, who was the youngest head coach in Bundesliga history when he started at Hoffenheim in 2018, is currently between jobs after stepping down as Germany’s coach following the World Cup.
He has also managed RB Leipzig and Bayern Munich. At Leipzig, he led the team to second place in the Bundesliga in his first season. At Bayern, he won two trophies, including the Bundesliga title in his first season but had a tougher time in 2022/23 and was let go before the season ended.
Germany reached the quarter-finals of the 2024 European Championships under him, but a penalty shoot-out loss to Paraguay at the World Cup’s early knockout stage led to his resignation.
It is said that Nagelsmann is well-liked by people at Manchester United and was highly thought of before Carrick became permanent head coach.
The report also mentions Brighton’s manager Fabian Hurzeler, who is liked by United, but hiring a current coach from a successful team like Brighton would be harder than going for someone out of work.
Antonio Conte is also ready to take the job if asked, but no one has contacted him yet.

Right after the game at Giuseppe Sinigaglia Stadium, Carrick went over to shake hands with Como’s coach Cesc Fabregas. He then apologized to the Manchester United fans who traveled to watch the game in Lombardy.
“I care a lot about the supporters,” Carrick said after the match. “They are the heart of this club and always will be.
“For them to travel all this way… I had to say sorry for how we played. Watching a game like that is tough, and I feel for them. There’s no excuse. It’s not acceptable.”
