Man Utd fans feel Michael Carrick might be giving up on a key player after a hidden moment during the Como defeat.
Michael Carrick was seen having a pretty firm talk with one player during Manchester United’s 4-1 Champions League loss to Como.
United sadly fell behind just two minutes into the game at the Giuseppe Sinigaglia Stadium, and before long in the second half, they were 2-0 down. Things got worse as Nico Paz scored twice, making it 3-0 by the 57th minute, and then Jacobo Ramon added a fourth. Joshua Zirkzee came on to score United’s only goal, but it was just a small consolation.
Whether this defeat will be the final straw for Carrick is still unclear, though pressure on him has definitely grown after some poor results recently. One moment that caught attention was a tense exchange between Carrick and Matheus Cunha during the first half.
Carrick made two substitutions at halftime, bringing on Carlos Baleba for Andrey Santos and Amad for Cunha. The switch with Cunha surprised some fans, especially after reporter Samuel Luckhurst shared that Cunha and Carrick had a “robust exchange” during a break in the game. Fans have also been worried about their relationship.
One fan said, “If Carrick stays, he’s probably going to sell Cunha. It seems like he’s given up on him.” Another felt Cunha has been “treated unfairly” by Carrick. Others wondered why Cunha was replaced by Amad, who hasn’t scored since last December, with one asking, “What did Cunha do to get treated like this?”
Cunha had started all five of United’s opening games this season, even helping with an assist in a 5-2 Premier League win and scoring in a 4-0 Champions League win. But lately, he’s been barely getting any playing time, only making short appearances off the bench against Atletico Madrid and Leeds.
This game was only his second start since the international break in September, and it’s definitely not one he or the team will want to look back on fondly.
