Video of Mercedes F1 boss Toto Wolff’s son, Jack, having a scary karting crash came out last night, with new reports saying the young racer ended up in the hospital.

According to Italy’s Gazzetta, Jack needed a medical check after getting into an accident while fighting for the win in a junior race. At first, it was said he walked away from the crash, but it now looks like he needed extra medical care afterward.

Jack Wolff, the son of Mercedes F1 boss Toto, is racing at one of the biggest events of his young career this weekend. He was competing in the IAME Warrior Final at Leopard Circuit Viterbo in Italy, driving in the X30 Mini class.

On the final lap, Jack and his rival Nahyl Elgahoudi had pulled ahead of the others, battling for first place. But then their karts touched, and another kart driven by young Brit Dimitar Uzunov crashed into Jack, hitting his shoulder and flipping over his kart.

Jack got out of his kart by himself, but Gazzetta now says he was taken to the hospital for some checks. “The driver, who was uninjured, was immediately taken to the hospital for checks,” they reported.

This happened while both of Jack’s parents are away on business in the US. Toto is busy with his Mercedes team, where driver Kimi Antonelli is trying to become the youngest grand prix champion ever this weekend. Meanwhile, Jack’s mom, Susie, is CEO of the all-female junior F1 Academy series, which is also racing at the Circuit of the Americas.

Earlier this year, Toto talked about the challenges of being a parent with a kid in racing. “It’s important to find the right balance because as a parent you’re emotionally involved, and that’s normal,” he said. “He’s nine years old, and there are many kids racing, so you have to find the right balance, and sometimes we don’t get it right. You face tough moments, and he had some today, but every little setback is a lesson for the future.”
