Gael Monfils is opening up! He’s hosting a live stream called ‘I’ll tell you everything’ after his divorce from Elina Svitolina.
Gael Monfils has announced that he’ll be doing a Twitch live stream this Monday evening, where he promises to “tell fans everything” about his sudden retirement and his divorce from Elina Svitolina.
Monfils surprised tennis fans in October by quickly retiring from the sport and then sharing news of his divorce from fellow tennis star Elina Svitolina. Now, the 40-year-old is ready to open up in a Twitch livestream set for Monday between 6pm and 8pm.
His retirement became known after his name showed up on the International Tennis Integrity Agency’s list of retired players, effective October 5. Before that, he was expected to play two farewell events in Lyon and Paris, where he planned to retire in front of his French fans. But organizers confirmed he wouldn’t be playing due to personal reasons, and shortly after, the news of his divorce came out.
On Sunday, Monfils posted on Instagram with details about the Twitch stream and wrote, “Quand? Ou? Je vous dis tout” (“When? Where? I’ll tell you everything.”) He’ll be joined by three major tennis media outlets to look back on his career and answer fans’ questions about his retirement and possibly his separation from Svitolina.
This will be the first time Monfils speaks publicly on camera about what’s been going on since he pulled out of the Lyon and Paris events and since the divorce announcement.
Last Friday, Monfils shared a heartfelt message on Instagram defending Svitolina and explaining their decision to share their struggles with the public. He wrote about the challenges he faced with injuries and self-doubt, and the pain Elina has gone through with the situation in her country. He said they are separating but still hold great respect and love for each other. He praised Elina for being open and honest about her reasons, even though she didn’t owe anyone an explanation.
Monfils also spoke out against the harsh criticism Elina has received, saying it was unkind and sometimes even cruel. He reminded fans that, even though they’re no longer a couple, they are still a family.
The couple welcomed their daughter Skai in October 2022, after marrying in July 2021. Many former tennis stars have shown support, including six-time Grand Slam winner Boris Becker, who wrote on X (formerly Twitter), “We love you both, Elina and Gael! It’s very tough living life in the public eye. Take good care of each other and your daughter Skai! God bless.”
Martina Navratilova also shared her thoughts on X, saying, “People are so nasty. Nobody is hurting more than Elina and Gael right now, and yet people criticize them? I just wish them good luck and health.”
Monfils’ upcoming livestream will be a chance for fans to hear from him directly and understand more about this difficult time in his life.
