A club insider shares new details, saying the Glazer family might sell Man Utd if these two things happen.

The Glazer family is ‘waiting for the right time’ to sell Manchester United, according to someone close to the club. There are two main things that might make them decide to sell.

Since they took over in 2005, the Glazers haven’t been popular with United fans. They put the club in £600 million of debt with their takeover. Many of the problems United have faced since Sir Alex Ferguson left in 2013 are linked to them. After a tough 3-0 home loss to Bournemouth, the owners of this famous club have been nowhere to be seen.

Despite this, most fans are supporting Michael Carrick, the club’s legend, rather than calling for him to be fired. They understand that many of the issues Carrick is dealing with come from the poor decisions of the Glazers and Sir Jim Ratcliffe.

Almost two years ago, Ratcliffe bought a 28% share in the club and promised to turn things around, but United are still struggling and just two points above the bottom of the league.

Fans want to know what it would take for the quiet Glazers, led by Joel Glazer, to sell the club. ESPN reports there isn’t much interest from investors right now, but the Glazers are said to be waiting for the perfect moment, which could depend on two things.

The first is building a new stadium. In June, they got most of the land needed to build a new 100,000-seat arena at Old Trafford, which would increase the club’s value. The second is if Manchester City gets kicked out of the Premier League for breaking financial rules. If that happens, United would have one less tough rival, which might make the club more attractive to buyers.

Earlier this month, The Mirror said the Glazers might want £5 billion for the club—more than twice its current market value. This will frustrate fans, who rarely hear from the family, even after owning the club for more than 20 years.

In fact, the last time the Glazers spoke publicly was on April 21, 2021. Joel Glazer wrote an open letter to fans, apologizing for the trouble caused by the European Super League plan.

He wrote, “We have seen how much football means to you and how loyal you are to this great club. You made it clear you were against the Super League, and we listened. We got it wrong and want to make things right. I’m committed to rebuilding trust with our fans.”

United was one of the main clubs behind the Super League, which collapsed after fans and football organizations strongly opposed it. This made fans dislike the Glazers even more. Since then, the family has stayed mostly silent, while fans continue to protest and the club faces tough times.
