Everton have decided to leave Jack Grealish out of their Carabao Cup game against Newcastle United after he reportedly broke club rules by missing a training session.

Before Thursday’s fourth-round match at the Hill Dickinson Stadium, Everton said in a statement that Grealish won’t be playing because of this disciplinary issue. The club hasn’t shared details, but The Independent reports he missed training without permission.

Grealish, who is on loan at Everton from Manchester City for a second time, missed the 2-0 loss at Arsenal on Saturday due to illness. The 31-year-old had started Everton’s last three Premier League games against Ipswich, Hull City, and Chelsea, and was expected to play this week against Newcastle.

On social media, Everton posted: “Jarrad Branthwaite remains out for a second game with concussion protocols, while Jack Grealish is unavailable for selection due to a breach of club discipline.” Tyrique George will replace Grealish in the starting lineup against Newcastle.

As a reminder, Grealish rejoined Everton on a season-long loan from Manchester City for 2026-27. Last season, he played 20 league games for Everton, with six assists and two goals.

When his move was announced, Grealish told Everton TV, “It feels so good. I’m really happy. I think I do my best in football and in life when I feel loved.” He added, “The manager, my teammates, and the fans have all made me feel that love. Every time I see an Everton fan, it’s pure love. They’ve welcomed me since my first game against Leeds, and that means a lot to me. I hope I’ve made some Everton fans happy.”

Grealish has played eight times for Everton this season. It’s not clear yet if he’ll be available for their Premier League match against Newcastle on Monday, November 2.
