David Moyes takes a tough shot at Jack Grealish after dropping him for breaking Everton’s rules.
David Moyes has talked about the surprising news that Jack Grealish was left out of Everton’s Carabao Cup squad because of disciplinary issues.
On Thursday night, Everton had one of their best wins this season, beating Newcastle United 3-1 at home. This victory put them into the Carabao Cup quarter-finals, where they will face League Two team Fleetwood Town.
Just before the game, it came as a shock to hear that their star player, Grealish, wasn’t included in the squad due to a ‘breach of Everton discipline.’ Now, Moyes has shared a bit more about what happened.
Everton’s goals from James Garner, Hayden Hackney, and Thierno Barry helped secure the win at the Hill Dickinson Stadium, giving the team a great chance to reach the semi-finals for only the sixth time in their EFL Cup history.
But the good mood was somewhat spoiled for Everton fans when they learned Grealish was dropped because he missed a training session without permission.
Moyes spoke about the choice to leave Grealish out and seemed to quietly criticize the winger while praising the club’s strong values.
“It’s not something I want to talk about too much. It’s a club decision, and I support it,” Moyes said after the game.
“For more details, you should contact the club.”
He added, “What’s great about Everton is the strong values here. All the players stick to these values, both on and off the pitch. From that perspective, the players did a fantastic job tonight.”
Everton will now travel to Fleetwood Town for their Carabao Cup quarter-final match, set for December 17 or 18.
Of course, fans are now wondering when Grealish will be back in the squad, especially with a busy schedule coming up. While Everton’s press officer quickly moved reporters away from questions about Grealish, Moyes did hint at his possible availability for Monday’s Premier League game against Newcastle at St James’ Park, though he didn’t share any specifics.
“I never reveal team news,” Moyes said.
If Grealish misses Monday’s game, the next chance to see him might be at home against Coventry City on Friday, November 6.
After that, he could be out longer because of the international break from November 9 to 17. Everton will return from the break with an away match at Brentford on November 23.
