Gary Neville’s thoughts on Trey Nyoni’s first Premier League start for Liverpool are getting mixed reactions from fans.

Gary Neville wasn’t too happy with Trey Nyoni’s start in Liverpool’s match against Arsenal, and his comments got a lot of attention online.

Liverpool had a big chance to boost their title hopes as they hosted the reigning champions at Anfield on Sunday evening. Before the game, Liverpool’s coach Andoni Iraola surprised fans by picking young player Nyoni in the starting lineup. But once the match began, Neville felt Nyoni’s performance was not great.

Right from the start, it was clear both teams were ready for a tough fight in what could be one of the season’s most important games. Players from both sides were going all out to take control.

Nyoni was right in the thick of it, and Neville thought he was lucky not to be sent off early after some rough tackles on Martin Odegaard and Kai Havertz. In the very first minute, Nyoni’s foot hit Odegaard’s, and some felt it could have caused a bad injury. Later, Nyoni bumped into Havertz as well.

Fans had mixed reactions to Neville’s remarks. One said, “Gary Neville is really trying to get Nyoni booked.” Another was annoyed, saying, “Neville is already picking on Nyoni today and won’t stop until he’s booked. He’s such a pain.” Others disagreed with Neville’s criticism, pointing out that football is a contact sport and the tackles weren’t serious fouls. One fan even wondered why Neville still covers Liverpool games.

However, Neville wasn’t the only one who thought Nyoni might have deserved a card. Some fans questioned how he avoided a red card for the challenge on Odegaard so early in the match.

But Nyoni’s tackles weren’t the only hot topic in the first half at Anfield. After Arsenal took the lead with a goal from Havertz, Liverpool cranked up the pressure and attacked hard. During one chance, Liverpool’s star striker Alexander Isak nearly headed a goal but seemed held back by Jurrien Timber. Neville said that if Isak had made more of the shirt pull, he might have won a penalty. The Sky Sports team agreed and criticized VAR for not getting involved.

Jamie Carragher said, “One of the best goal scorers in the league is pulled back just yards away, stopping him from heading the ball—VAR needs to step in.” Arsenal legend Ian Wright added that Isak shouldn’t have to exaggerate the foul, saying, “We could clearly see the pull. As an Arsenal fan, I’m glad we got away with it, but it was enough to stop him naturally heading the ball.”

It’s clear this match had plenty to talk about and the tension will only build as Liverpool tries to close the gap on Arsenal and Man City this season.
