Michael Carrick didn’t show the strong spirit Man Utd really needs when talking about the Lisandro Martinez situation.

Michael Carrick had a chance to show some strong leadership at Monday’s press conference, but his answer about Lisandro Martinez didn’t have the confidence that Manchester United really needs right now.
Martinez will miss this weekend’s important game against Aston Villa after getting two yellow cards just 83 seconds apart in the match against Chelsea. The 28-year-old defender, who recently criticized United’s management after their Champions League loss to Atletico Madrid, was actually ignored by Carrick as he left the pitch.
When asked about Martinez, Carrick didn’t take the chance to be firm and show authority. Instead, he said, “No, I’ve got no concerns about commitment at all. Things happen in football — sometimes you make decisions, sometimes mistakes. But commitment is definitely not an issue.”
He added, “I’ve said it before, I don’t question the players’ commitment to the club, to me, or to each other. We need to play better and make smarter decisions, but commitment isn’t one of the problems.”
Meanwhile, United’s top officials are planning to talk with Martinez about his attitude, performance, future, and contract, according to the Manchester Evening News. Martinez, who is in the last year of his contract, has caught the eye of several clubs, including Champions League teams Roma and Como. Barcelona and Atletico Madrid are also keeping an eye on him, according to reports.
His Argentina teammate Cristian Romero, who joined Atletico Madrid from Tottenham recently, even said Martinez is the player he’d most like to have with him at the Spanish club.
With everything happening this season, it seems likely Martinez will leave United next summer, even though the club has the option to extend his contract until 2028.
Football expert Fabrizio Romano gave an update on Martinez’s future in his latest YouTube video. He said, “It’s a tough time for Lisandro Martinez right now. His contract runs until June 2027, which is the end of this season. Man Utd has an option to extend it until 2028, so they won’t lose any value in the player.”
