Liverpool offers player to Saudi Pro League after tough injury streak
Liverpool have reportedly offered their struggling star Jeremie Frimpong to a club in Saudi Arabia.
Frimpong joined the Reds from Bayer Leverkusen in 2025 for £29.5 million, a move many thought was a great piece of business. But the Dutch player has had a tough time at Anfield, especially since he was brought in to replace Trent Alexander-Arnold, who moved to Real Madrid.
In his first season, Frimpong played 35 games, but his form dropped, and he was left out of the Netherlands squad for the World Cup. This season, he’s played eight times, but new signing Ronaldo Araujo seems to have secured the right-back spot.
According to Ismael Mahmoud from WinWin, Liverpool have already offered Frimpong to Saudi Pro League leaders Al Hilal. His fellow Dutch player Crysencio Summerville moved there in the summer, as did England striker Ollie Watkins and Brazil’s Gabriel Martinelli. Frimpong is reportedly open to the move, where he would likely earn a big paycheck and join Dutch teammates Tijjani Reijnders and Steven Bergwijn.
Frimpong, 25, has also had injury problems since joining the Premier League. His latest injury happened during the win over Brentford, where he had to leave the game just six minutes after coming on. He’s been out for about three weeks now.
The Daily Mail’s Lewis Steele mentioned that Frimpong is nearly fit and could play this weekend against Crystal Palace, but the club wants to be careful and plans to wait until after the November international break to bring him back.
Since last season, he has missed 30 games due to injuries, including matches against Bournemouth, Eintracht Frankfurt, and Qarabag. Back in April, Frimpong spoke openly about these struggles, saying he’s never faced so many injuries before and admitted it’s been a hard time, especially since the team hasn’t been performing as expected. He also said he’s grateful for the support from friends and family that helped him stay positive.
The former Celtic player now hopes to stay injury-free once he’s cleared to play again after the international break.
