Bryson DeChambeau’s future with LIV Golf is looking uncertain after reports surfaced that the league might shut down. Just days after The Masters, one of the biggest golf events, ended at Augusta National, news came out that LIV Golf could be in serious trouble.

Even though LIV Golf’s CEO Scott O’Neil tried to calm things down, many reports say the funding from the Saudi backers might stop as early as August, mainly because of the ongoing conflict in the Middle East.

If LIV Golf does close, there are big questions about what will happen to the 57 players currently in the league, including some star players like DeChambeau. PGA Tour CEO Brian Rolapp hinted that players like DeChambeau and Jon Rahm might be able to come back to the PGA Tour if LIV folds, but it’s unclear if they would want to.

A recent report from The Athletic’s Brody Miller even says DeChambeau and his team have already started meeting with other groups to talk about leaving LIV soon. The report says the American golfer spent part of Masters week meeting with different organizations about possibly leaving LIV. It’s not clear who he’s talking to or if the PGA Tour is one of those options.

DeChambeau is using his popularity on YouTube and the trend of other players leaving LIV for the PGA Tour as leverage, reportedly asking for up to $500 million to stay with the Saudi-backed league.

But it’s not just LIV he’s mentioning his YouTube fame to—he’s also said to potential teams that he might quit regular tours entirely and focus only on social media and playing the four major championships.

If DeChambeau did leave LIV Golf, it would be a big blow for the league since he’s been a key figure since joining in June 2022. People in LIV are hopeful that he’ll stick with them long term before his current contract ends this year, but the rumors about the league’s future are making things uncertain.

His recent silence after a tough round in Mexico City and then dropping out the next day hasn’t helped quiet the rumors that he might leave LIV at the end of the year.
