NFL star injured in ‘disagreement’ after Super Bowl LX, police share update

NFL player Keion White was unfortunately shot during an incident in San Francisco after attending Super Bowl LX. The San Francisco 49ers defensive lineman was shot in the ankle early Monday morning. The shooting happened just after 4 a.m. on Mission Street in downtown San Francisco.
Police told the Associated Press, “Officers arrived and found a person with a gunshot wound. They helped him and called for paramedics. He was taken to a local hospital with injuries that are not life-threatening.” The shooting followed a verbal argument between two groups inside a business, according to police.
White, 27, had been at Super Bowl LX on Sunday at Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara, California. The 49ers confirmed he isn’t facing life- or career-threatening injuries and had a successful surgery on Monday afternoon. “Keion White was shot in the ankle this morning in San Francisco,” the team said in a statement to NBC News. They also said they will share updates when they can.
San Francisco police are investigating, and no arrests have been made so far. On Sunday, White shared photos and videos on Instagram from the Super Bowl, where he watched his former team, the New England Patriots, lose to the Seattle Seahawks. The Seahawks won 29-13, earning their second Vince Lombardi Trophy.
White joined the 49ers in 2025 after a trade with the Patriots. Since then, he has played in 47 games, starting 20, and recorded 100 tackles and 7.5 sacks. Sadly, White is the second 49ers player to be shot in San Francisco in the last 18 months; Ricky Pearsall was shot in the chest during a robbery attempt in August 2024. A teenage suspect has been charged with that shooting and is awaiting trial, possibly facing up to seven years in prison.
