At the end of March, Eddie Hearn shared some exciting news: he signed Henry Pollock to his Matchroom Talent Agency. Henry, a rising star on the England rugby team, is quickly making a name for himself, and now he has the support of boxing promoter Hearn to help guide his career.

Pollock, known for his strong presence with the Northampton Saints and England, has become a bit of a “pantomime villain” to fans, and he seems to enjoy that role—especially after his recent games against France and Bath. This new partnership with Matchroom could open lots of doors for the young athlete, though in a funny moment during a post-match interview with TNT Sports, Pollock accidentally called it the “matchmaking” agency!

The 21-year-old quickly apologized to Hearn for the mix-up, but it turns out he might have played matchmaker for Hearn’s next big signing. In a popular video clip, Pollock and Hearn chat on the phone, with Pollock promising to make up for the mistake by bringing another star, Finn Russell, over to Matchroom.

Russell is one of the best fly-halves in the world right now and joining the agency shows Hearn’s commitment to British rugby. The Scottish international even called himself the “Messi of rugby” in the Netflix series “Six Nations: Full Contact,” and he certainly dazzles fans with his skill and kicking.

Rugby in the UK is getting a fresh boost, too. Newcastle has recently been bought by Red Bull and is now called Newcastle Red Bulls, sparking a big change and lots of new signings for next season. Exeter Chiefs are also close to being taken over by an American group, while Bath and Northampton have seen big investments as well.

Eddie Hearn clearly sees the exciting changes happening in British rugby, and signing both Pollock and Russell to his Matchroom Talent Agency shows he’s serious about being part of this growing game.
