At WrestleMania, Brock Lesnar stepped away from the plan, and Triple H shared what really went on behind the scenes after his retirement.
Triple H, WWE’s Chief Content Officer and wrestling legend, opened up about what happened behind the scenes after Brock Lesnar’s loss at WrestleMania 42, and gave an update on whether Lesnar is really retiring.
WrestleMania 42 took place over the weekend in Las Vegas, with stars like Roman Reigns, Oba Femi, and Trick Williams putting on great performances. On the second night, Oba Femi defeated Brock Lesnar in just four minutes and 42 seconds. After the match, a 48-year-old Lesnar left his gear in the ring and seemed emotional, while Paul Heyman gave him a big hug.
Usually, leaving gear in the ring is a sign a wrestler is retiring. But Heyman said that’s not the case with Lesnar. When asked about the future, he said, “Another 15 years of dominance by Brock Lesnar.”
Reports say WWE didn’t expect Lesnar to retire in Vegas; they thought it might happen after SummerSlam in his hometown, Minneapolis.
After the event, Triple H told ESPN, “It seemed like that” when asked if Lesnar had decided to retire. He explained, “Brock isn’t someone who talks things over. He just walks off, maybe angry, heads to his bus, and that’s it.”
Triple H called Lesnar one of the most famous fighters of our time—unique and smart, not just a big, powerful athlete. He said sometimes, a fighter knows when they meet someone tougher, and they decide it’s time to stop.
“He wasn’t afraid,” Triple H said. “He just met someone stronger—Oba Femi—and made a smart choice. That moment was as much about Oba’s rise as Brock’s decision.”
In short, Triple H said fans saw a true “changing of the guard” at the top of the sport that night.
