Turner was a major figure in pro wrestling as the founder of World Championship Wrestling (WCW), which was once as popular as WWE. Although WCW faced troubles in the late ’90s and eventually closed, many remember Turner’s huge impact on the industry.
Trump’s tribute to Turner came with a mention of CNN, which Turner also founded. He said Turner was upset when CNN’s new owners “destroyed” the network by making it too “woke.” Trump hoped the new owners might bring CNN back to its “former credibility and glory.” He also called Turner a great broadcaster and a friend who was always there to support him.
