LeBron James faces a tough and surprising call in a big NBA playoffs loss to the Thunder.
LeBron James had a tough and frustrating night as the Los Angeles Lakers were soundly beaten by the Oklahoma City Thunder in the NBA playoffs. The Lakers, led by LeBron, now trail 3-0 in the Western Conference semi-finals after losing 108-131 in tonight’s game.
LeBron scored 19 points on 37% shooting, grabbed six rebounds, and handed out eight assists before sitting out the final minutes. Early in the first quarter, with the Lakers down 12-15, LeBron looked surprised by another controversial call.
He was fouled by Lu Dort while trying a three-pointer, but no shooting foul was called even though his shot was interrupted. The pump fake seemed to fool Dort, but the referees ruled the foul happened before LeBron started his shooting motion. LeBron watched the replay in disbelief, frustrated by what many fans believe has been a pattern of calls favoring the Thunder — the 2025 NBA champions.
Lakers coach JJ Redick also spoke about the refereeing, especially after the controversial Game 2 where the Thunder won 127-107. Redick, who was visibly upset and even got a technical foul, criticized the officials for not calling fouls on LeBron. He said he’s never seen a star player get worse calls, adding that smaller, more theatrical players usually get more fouls called on their behalf than bigger players like LeBron.
Though Redick said LeBron’s officiating troubles aren’t just with the Thunder, he stressed that fouls should be called when they happen. The Lakers face a tough challenge tonight, as no team in NBA history has ever come back from a 3-0 series deficit.
While the missed call early in the game didn’t change the final outcome, it upset many fans who started questioning the fairness of officiating in games involving the reigning champs. One fan on Reddit asked, “What is actually happening? Are we ever really going to find out?” Another said, “It’s very clear something is going on behind the scenes. The Thunder are getting calls on both offense and defense that no other team gets.”
The Lakers will be back in action for Game 4 on Tuesday, hoping to avoid a sweep and pull off an incredible comeback in the series.
