Steph Curry stays with the Warriors as they reach a new agreement with Steve Kerr, avoiding a sad goodbye.
Steph Curry and coach Steve Kerr’s strong partnership is set to continue with a new two-year deal. The Golden State Warriors have agreed to keep Kerr as head coach through the 2026/27 season, which will be his 13th year leading the team.
Kerr’s time with the Warriors has been the most successful in the team’s history, thanks in large part to the amazing contributions of four-time NBA champ Steph Curry. According to The Athletic, the deal was agreed on Saturday, and it means Kerr could be with the Warriors for 14 years in total.
The Warriors’ season ended in early April with a loss to the Phoenix Suns in the Play-In Tournament, which decided the last playoff spot. After the game, Kerr was heard talking with Curry and Draymond Green about his future, sparking some questions among fans.
Many expected Kerr to sign a new contract, but his words after the game left some wondering. The 60-year-old coach said, “I don’t know what’s gonna happen next, but I love you guys to death. Thank you, I appreciate you.”
Kerr is best known for his partnership with Curry, winning four NBA titles together and building one of the league’s greatest teams in the 2010s. In an interview with The Athletic last December, Kerr said he would “never leave” Curry.
“He is one of the finest human beings I’ve ever been around,” Kerr said. “Coming to work and seeing Steph every day has made this job amazing. We formed a partnership that I will be thankful for my whole life — it goes way beyond basketball.”
The Athletic also reported that Kerr will keep his spot as the highest-paid coach in the NBA, with his previous salary at $17.5 million a year. His new salary hasn’t been announced yet.
For now, it looks like Curry will keep his longtime coach, mentor, and friend. But with Curry, 38, dealing with fitness issues—he missed two months last season due to a knee injury—it’s unclear how many more winning seasons they’ll have together.
Curry is now focusing on getting healthy for the next season, hoping to add to his six NBA Finals appearances and four championships won with Kerr by his side.
