Liverpool fans want Arne Slot to be fired, with millions signing a popular petition.
Liverpool fans have started a petition asking for Arne Slot to be let go, and it’s gaining a lot of attention.
Just over a year after helping Liverpool win their second Premier League title, Slot is now facing a lot of calls from fans to be fired soon. The Dutch manager has been under a lot of pressure this season because Liverpool’s results and performances have dropped a lot, even though the club spent £446 million to sign seven new players last summer.
Right now, Liverpool is in fourth place in the Premier League, and their spot in next season’s Champions League isn’t guaranteed, with only two games left. Slot’s team has also lost 19 games in all competitions this season, one of the highest totals this century.
It seems many fans have had enough after Liverpool’s 1-1 draw with Chelsea, which sparked a viral petition called “Arne Slot Out.” The petition says: “Reds, make your voice heard. If you believe change is needed — sign this petition.” It’s quickly getting close to a million signatures, with 869,520 so far, showing how frustrated many Liverpool fans are.
However, this number might not be completely accurate since anyone can sign the petition without proving they’re a real Liverpool fan. You just have to click a button on the site — no account or personal info is required.
This petition follows a similar one by Real Madrid fans recently that went viral, asking for striker Kylian Mbappe to leave their club.
No matter the petition’s exact impact, it’s clear a good number of Liverpool fans want a new manager next season. The favorite to replace Slot is former Liverpool player Xabi Alonso, who is popular with fans and bookmakers.
Alonso is thought to be thinking about his next job after leaving Real Madrid in January, just seven months after becoming their manager. Some reports say Liverpool have even reached out to Real Madrid to ask if Alonso would be a good choice if Slot is fired.
Other managers linked to the Liverpool job include Luis Enrique, Andoni Iraola, and Julian Nagelsmann.
