Tottenham Hotspur pulled one point further away from the relegation zone with their 1-1 draw against Leeds United on Monday night in the Premier League.

This means Spurs are now just two points above West Ham, who are currently in the last relegation spot, with only two games left in the season. So, their place in the top league is still not guaranteed, but they do have control over their own fate right now.

Spurs fans are understandably worried about the prospect of relegation from the Premier League for the first time in the club’s history, although they have been relegated before from the top flight.

A financial expert recently explained how dropping to the Championship could hit Spurs hard. Stefan Borson, on ‘The Room Where it Happened’ podcast, said the club could lose about £145 million in just one season. He explained, “It’s that double problem of losing not just the Premier League but also UEFA competition money next year. You lose £100 million from UEFA and £75 million domestically. The current TV deal pays £200 million, but that would fall to £55 million. That’s a loss of £145 million.”

Meanwhile, The Touchline on X thinks the impact might be even worse, estimating up to £250 million lost overnight. They point to losing TV money, no Champions League earnings, fewer matchday fees, and sponsorship deals that could pay less because of relegation.

On a brighter note for Spurs fans, they are currently outside the relegation zone. If they get the same or better results than West Ham in the last two games, they will avoid relegation.

Next up, Roberto De Zerbi’s team will face Chelsea—a tough match, even though Chelsea have been struggling lately and are focused on the FA Cup this weekend. On the final day, Spurs will host Everton, who are hoping to qualify for European football, which could make that game challenging.

A helpful point for Spurs is that West Ham also have two difficult games ahead. They visit Newcastle United next and then finish the season hosting Leeds at the London Stadium. So, Spurs still have a solid chance to stay safe.
