Man Utd bosses have made their final choice for the next permanent manager.
The Manchester United top team, including chief executive Omar Berrada and football director Jason Wilcox, have reportedly made a decision about Michael Carrick’s future at the club.
Carrick took over as head coach from Ruben Amorim in January and has done a great job, leading the Red Devils to 10 wins, 3 draws, and just 2 losses in 15 games. He helped the team secure a spot in the Champions League for the first time since the 2022/23 season.
Even with this success, Carrick’s contract only runs until the end of the season. There are other big-name managers like Luis Enrique, Oliver Glasner, and Andoni Iraola linked with the permanent job.
However, a recent report from The Athletic says that Wilcox and Berrada have suggested the club offer Carrick the role to keep him beyond this season.
It looks like Sir Jim Ratcliffe will have the final say. The 44-year-old has been involved in talks about the future and summer signings. The Glazer family, who own most of the club, are happy for Ratcliffe to make the call.
The decision is expected soon, with United set to start direct talks with Carrick before their last Premier League game against Brighton on May 24. Formal discussions should be easy to complete with agreement on contract details.
According to ESPN, Carrick and his coaching team — Steve Holland, Jonathan Woodgate, Travis Binnion, and Jonny Evans — are well-liked by the players and might stay on.
United will play Nottingham Forest on May 17.
Speaking last week, Carrick said, “Clarity is important… We’ve finished strong and put ourselves in a good spot. I know talks about my role will happen near the end of the season. Right now, I’m focused on helping the team finish well. I’m calm about it. It will get sorted when it’s meant to, and it’s out of my hands for now, so we’ll see what happens.”
