Mikel Arteta shared exactly what he planned to do as Arsenal won the Premier League after Manchester City’s 1-1 draw with Bournemouth.
Nearly seven years after becoming Arsenal’s manager, Arteta finally achieved his dream of leading the London club to the Premier League title.
After Arsenal’s win against Burnley at the Emirates on Monday night, everyone was watching the Vitality Stadium, where Manchester City needed a win to keep their title hopes alive.
But a goal from Bournemouth’s young player Eli Junior Kroupi turned out to be the most important of the season, ending Arsenal’s 22-year wait to lift the Premier League trophy again.
Even though Erling Haaland scored a late equalizer, City’s 1-1 draw wasn’t enough to stay in the race.
Arsenal fans around the world must be celebrating and looking forward to their Champions League final against Paris Saint-Germain on May 30.
Before City’s game started, Arteta explained what he’d be doing during the match and who he’d celebrate with if Arsenal won.
After Arsenal’s 1-0 win over Burnley, he said, “I think we are all supporting Bournemouth because we know what’s at stake.”
He added he would keep things quiet, watching the game at home with his family.
“I never thought I’d lose this much hair, but this job really tests you,” he joked.
“I’m not sure how long I’ll be able to watch, but I’ll be in front of the TV. I planned to watch it with my family, though I’m not sure for how long.”
Now that City didn’t win, Arsenal doesn’t even need a draw when they face Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park on Sunday afternoon.
The players can get ready to accept the Premier League trophy right after the game.
Only 2,687 Arsenal fans will be at the Palace stadium to celebrate with the team, but the club will likely arrange a big trophy parade through London soon after.
