Jurgen Klopp gets surprising offer to come back to coaching
Jurgen Klopp is one of the most admired football managers in the world, thanks to his success first at Borussia Dortmund and then at Liverpool. Now, he might have a chance to get back into coaching.
The German coach stepped away from management at the end of the 2024 season after nine years leading Liverpool. During that time, he won big trophies like the Premier League, Champions League, FA Cup, and Club World Cup with Liverpool. Before that, he also won two Bundesliga titles and the DFB-Pokal with Dortmund.
After leaving Liverpool, Klopp took a short break from coaching but recently returned to the football scene as Red Bull’s Head of Global Soccer starting in October 2024. This new role might lead him back to managing a team because he’s been working closely with Paris FC. The sports drink company Red Bull owns 11% of the French club.
Paris FC finished 11th in Ligue 1 this season, which is impressive since it was their first time in the top league in 46 years. The main owners, the Arnault family, have big dreams for the club — they want to win their first trophy and play in the Champions League.
So, who better to lead this exciting project than Klopp, who has experience building up two clubs and making them leaders in European football? Antoine Arnault told AFTER FOOT about his hope to bring 58-year-old Klopp back into coaching. He knows Klopp needs time to recharge after 23 straight seasons with three different clubs.
Arnault said, “Who wouldn’t dream of having Jurgen? He probably won’t return immediately, but maybe in three, four, or five years… If we make it to the Champions League, I’d love to convince him to coach our team.”
