“Wow, such a big club…” – Player openly shares excitement about joining Man Utd this summer
A player linked with a move to Manchester United has openly shown interest in joining the club this summer.
United are getting ready for their first full transfer window under new permanent manager Michael Carrick. The 44-year-old took over as interim boss in January after Ruben Amorim left and helped the team qualify for the Champions League. As a result, he was given a two-year contract with the option for a third, which was officially announced on Friday morning.
Unlike last season, when United couldn’t sign many players because they missed out on European football, this time they have more freedom. Italian reports say they are close to signing Brazil’s midfielder Ederson, who was kept on the bench during Atalanta’s 1-1 draw with Fiorentina on Friday to avoid injury.
There’s also interest in Newcastle’s Sandro Tonali, with Carrick said to be keen on bringing him to Old Trafford. But a surprise name has come up too—Greek winger Christos Tzolis, who plays for Belgian club Club Brugge.
Tzolis joined Norwich in 2021 as a 19-year-old but didn’t have much success in England. However, he’s done really well in Belgium, scoring 42 goals and providing 42 assists over two seasons. Now 24, he’s played in the Champions League and has plenty of experience. Brugge only paid €6.5 million for him, so they stand to make a good profit if they sell him this summer.
Tzolis has attracted offers from Crystal Palace, Aston Villa, Arsenal, Newcastle, and, of course, United. In an interview with Belgian outlet Hie Nieuwsblad, he spoke frankly about his future. While he said only PSG would be a better choice than staying at Brugge, he also praised Manchester United.
“I feel good here. Staying another year was the best decision for me last season,” he said. “If a Champions League team from England, Germany, Spain or Italy comes knocking, I’d say no to Crystal Palace. United could convince me. It’s such a huge club with a lot of history. Saying no would be hard.”
In another interview, when asked about interest from Manchester City, United, and Arsenal, he was more cautious. “I don’t know yet. It depends on Club Brugge. It’s not my decision. We’ll see what the best option is. It’s not just about the name; we have to think about the project too. Why not stay at Club Brugge? My contract runs until 2029.”
