AC Milan looks to Premier League manager for a surprise new coach after letting Max Allegri go.
AC Milan are said to be eyeing a Premier League manager as their top choice after parting ways with Max Allegri. The club had a tough end to the 2025/26 season, losing 2-1 to Cagliari on the last day and dropping from third to fifth place in Serie A. This meant they missed out on Champions League football for the second year running, which is a big deal for a club that has won the tournament seven times.
Right after the loss, AC Milan’s owners, RedBird Capital, called the season “an outright failure” and promised a major shake-up at the club. As a result, they let go of Allegri and several key executives, including the CEO Giorgio Furlani, sporting director Igli Tare, and technical director Geoffrey Moncada.
Now, reports say the club has already picked their favorite replacement: Andoni Iraola. He recently left Bournemouth after an incredible three years, leading them to Europe for the first time ever. Since he’s currently available, several big clubs are expected to reach out this summer.
Crystal Palace, another Premier League team that lost their manager Oliver Glasner, are interested, and so is Bundesliga club Bayer Leverkusen. If Liverpool part ways with Arne Slot soon, Iraola could also be in the running for that job.
If Iraola doesn’t take the Milan job, the club has other big names in mind. Aston Villa’s Unai Emery, who helped his team win the Europa League this season, is thought to be a key target. Other candidates reportedly include Xavi (who’s free after leaving Barcelona), former Juventus coach Thiago Motta, and Bologna’s Vincenzo Italiano. AC Milan seem set for some exciting changes ahead!
